Principal's Welcome

Dear Renaissance Families,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year at Renaissance High School for the Arts! We hope you were able to enjoy a restful summer and spend quality time with family and friends. As we prepare for the year ahead, we are thrilled to welcome our incoming Renaissance students and to see our returning students again at registration in August and of course on the first day of school, Tuesday, August 26, 2025. It will be an all-period minimum day.

I am extremely excited and proud to share that our academic achievement scores have made huge strides. Our Math SBAC scores improved by an outstanding 22%, our English SBAC scores remain as one of the top in the district and our college ready indicators are still one of the highest in LBUSD.

We want to continue to strengthen our partnership with parents and families. Our first PARTS (Parents for the Arts) meeting will take place on September 10, 2025, at 6:00 pm. We hope you will get involved, as your partnership is essential to your child's education. Also, we are very proud to be the 1st LBUSD High School to have a Sankofa Parent Village. SPV is a community of care and support for parents and caregivers of Black children. You will receive more information on this in the coming weeks.

At Renaissance, our mission is to provide every student with both a rigorous academic foundation and a high-quality visual and performing arts education. Achieving this goal requires teamwork, and we count on your support in ensuring that students arrive on time each day, attend all classes, and remain engaged in their learning. Please also remember to check Canvas regularly for updates on school news and activities. You will also be able to stay connected through our social media: RHSAASB, RenaissanceHSLB, and Thatartschoolinthelbc.

Finally, I want to take a moment to reassure you that safety and well-being are our top priorities. We know that recent news about immigration enforcement may cause concern for some families. Please know that Renaissance is a safe and welcoming place for EVERY student. We are committed to protecting the learning environment so that ALL students can feel secure, supported, and free to focus on their education. We are excited to welcome everyone back for another year of growth, creativity, and success. Together, we will make 2025-26 a rewarding year for our entire Renaissance community.

With appreciation,

Michael Navia, Ed.D.
