Fashion Design

Highly career-oriented, this program aims to encourage and prepare students to embrace their style to create their own voice in the vibrant Southern California fashion industry and its many professional opportunities in the field. Our projects and activities mimic a range of careers in fashion design and merchandising - from creating ready-to-wear apparel, costumes, and/or high-end design, to manufacturing, retail, and marketing - in order for students to have industry-based, practical, and hands-on experiences. This includes students’ participation in our yearly fashion show, where they play multiple roles –from creating, illustrating, pitching, and criticizing their design ideas, to producing the hair, makeup, styling, and modeling of their garments. The program also includes many students’ extracurricular activities, such as the promotion and organization of our school’s Halloween Costume Contest and controlling all administrative and operational aspects of the Pop-Up Thrift Store that fashion students manage on-site. Students complete the program with a capstone portfolio to be presented in their chosen academic programs and/or job interviews.

Entrance Criteria
As in all the schools at Renaissance High School for the Arts, students need a driving passion within the school they choose. Regular attendance and scholarly behavior will increase each school's experience by the individual. RHSA is not a spectator school and demands students engage within the community to make a greater whole!  At Renaissance, students learn and DO!
